Sweden changes tune on AstraZeneca
The Swedish Public Health Agency has suspended the use of Astra Zeneca's vaccine until the European Medicines Agency's investigation into suspected side effects has been completed.
Sweden’s Chief Epidemiologist Anders Tegnell.
“The decision is a precautionary measure.”
Sweden had, until today, said it would continue use of the AstraZeneca vaccine, AstraZeneca is a combined Swedish and British venture, saying there wasn’t enough evidence to support suspending its use. So a pretty sharp u-turn today.
Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Austria, and other E.U. countries have also suspended the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
The European Medicines Agency will hold an extraordinary meeting on Thursday “to conclude on the information gathered and any further actions that may need to be taken.”
