“The government does not want to keep society closed for a day longer than necessary” Denmark’s Health Minister Magnus Heunicke.
The Danish government will announce on Wednesday if COVID lockdown restrictions can be phased out, or not. A number of the current lockdown restrictions, which have been in place since Christmas week, are due to expire February 28th.
On Monday the COVID Task Force will hand government its recommendations on which restrictions to phase out and which to extend. This will be accompanied by mathematical modeling for each scenario.
On Tuesday meetings will be held with party leaders to go over the recommendations and modeling before a course of action is announced on Wednesday.
There are some hints in the announcement. One that any re-opening would follow the priorities laid out by the Academic Reference Group. Topping that list is getting secondary school students back into class.
The other is on the timeline for removing restrictions something Denmark’s health minister says could take months.
Complicating all of this is the rapidly spreading U.K. corona variant and any sudden explosion of infections that could force restrictions to be quickly reimposed once again.
