Breaking - Danish Nord Stream Sabotage Investigation Ends.
🇩🇰
Just weeks after the Swedish investigation into the Nord Stream pipelines sabotage was ended another investigation by Danish authorities has also been stopped. On Monday morning Copenhagen Police announced that its joint investigation with the Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET) has been concluded.
It says the investigation was both “complex and comprehensive.”
“The investigation has led the authorities to conclude that there was deliberate sabotage of the gas pipelines. However, there is not sufficient grounds to pursue a criminal case in Denmark in connection with the explosions of Nord Stream 1 and 2, and therefore the Copenhagen Police has decided to conclude the criminal investigation of the explosions.”
It adds that PET continues to monitor “developments in the threat landscape” and works alongside other relevant authorities on any and all measures “deemed necessary to protect Denmark’s critical infrastructure.”
Copenhagen Police add that they will not be providing any further comments or media interviews on the subject.
On February 7, the Swedish Public Prosecutor’s Office said it had ended its investigation into the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines after finding no evidence of any involvement by Sweden or any Swedish citizen. In ending its investigation the public prosecutor handed all the evidence it had collected to German authorities, whose investigation remains ongoing.
In September of 2022, a series of undersea explosions tore the Nord Stream pipelines apart in three locations in international waters just outside Swedish and Danish territorial waters but within each country’s exclusive economic zone. The explosions also released huge amounts of methane into the atmosphere.
