A Mayoral Mea Culpa
The mayor of Middelfart has taken to Facebook to say sorry for being vaccinated against the coronavirus.
“I have shown exceptionally poor judgment and made the indisputable mistake of getting vaccinated against COVID.”
Johannes Lundsfryd Jensen says around the New Year he was offered an excess dose of the Pfizer vaccine and took it. Jensen says it was at the time when it was just being discovered the vaccine vials held an extra dose, sometimes two. He says the extra doses had to be administered quickly or risk being thrown out.
“It happened at a time and in a situation where it did not seem wrong to me. But today it is clear to me that it was a wrong decision and that I should have said no thank you.”
Jensen says procedures are in place now to reach people in the priority groups on short notice to administer extra doses that weren’t then but he adds that is no excuse.
He insists at no time was he deliberately trying to jump the queue.
”I showed poor judgment in the situation, and I very much regret that. Being an elected politician and mayor is a position of trust. My principle has always been that as such you should never be at the front of the queue. That principle I have broken, and I am frankly embarrassed.”
